I still love the rain.
This was the only thing that she could think of while gazing to the little droplets of rains’ water in her window. She was skinny with few wrinkles visible from the sides of her eyes. She could feel the vexatious feeling staggering her whole body. She felt numb. She froze after a while. She reminisce his presence.
“I still love the rain” she said. Now, she’s fighting the pain, with teary eyes.
Four years has been passed since the Balete Drive incident in the Philippines had happened.
-Flashback- (4 years ago; June 13, 2003 – Friday)
“Will you marry me?” he said while being soaked with the rains’ water. He set her up for his unique proposal to her.
A scenario by which he set up by bringing her to the airport and lying that he will leave for Macau and not going to be back for 3 years. She started to cry when she heard him and walked away without even finishing his sentence. Rain started to pour. She felt that the world was suffering with her.
“The sky’s also crying? Crap!” She said while blowing her nose with the sleeves of her dress, crying, and running away from him. He chased her fast. She didn’t even have the chance to ride a cab. But she manages to leave the airport and walk to the side pavement.
“What the hell do you want!!?” She shouted at him as he grabbed her to her wrist. Everyone stared at them after she shouted. She suddenly stopped crying and immediately looked at his eyes. “Ohmygod! This is so embarrassing! I BLAME YOU!” She whispered in the air with an angry expression. She turned away and was about to continue walking when he grabbed her wrist again and said “I don’t give a damn if people are staring at us. Wait! Don’t be so-. So-. He- He- Hey! I said HEY! STOP THE HELL UP!” She was trying to break loose at his grip but he hardly hold unto her. When he shouted, peoples’ attentions were now at them. “What the HELL? STOP! THIS IS-“but before she was able to finish her sentence, he butted in and said…
“Will you marry me?” He said to her out of the blue.
“You’re a douche bag! Stop this at once!”
“No! I’m serious!”
“Hell you are!”
“Hey! I had enough of your bad mouth! Shut it up! THIS IS A SIMPLE QUESTION. Just answer me! Yes or No. This is simpler than algebra!”
“I thought you’re going to leave? You know what? Here’s a penny! Go talked to anybody EXCEPT me! Leave now!”
“DUMMY! HE SET YOU UP!” Someone from the audiences shouted at her.
“What the-…(Yeah. They have audiences now)”
“HOW THE HELL DID YOU KNOW? YOU’RE NIETHER ME OR HIM STUPID!” she shouted back at the guy who shouted at her.
“ISN’T IT OBVIOUS? LOOK AT HIS DAMN SHIRT!”
The rain was pouring harder now. She wiped her face with her hands and looked down at his wet shirt.
“WILL YOU MARRY ME?” It was in the biggest print.
He, as well as the audiences, started to laugh. She blushed. Yet, she was blaming herself for being so stupid.
Why didn’t I recognize it earlier? That’s why he had roses in his car!
“Okay dummy! Stop the self blaming part *laugh*.” He reached for his left pocket and grab a small box. The box was red.
“A ring? For me? Aww!” she said as soon as she had seen it. “Ah, no. That was my just my retainers.” He said it to her. She suddenly frowned.
Suddenly, he opened the box and it was a ring.
“Ahahha! You actually believe me? Ahahah!”
He grabbed her hands and put the ring to her ring finger.
“So I guess it’s a yes?”
“You didn’t even let me answer. STUPID.”
She laughed, but he didn’t. He was serious now. She stops laughing when she realizes that she wasn’t being funny.
Nice try. You did a good job embarrassing yourself again.
“Yes. I will.”
He suddenly hugged her and the audiences cheered for them. The next part?
It was all like a dream.
They were now in his car. They were dried. She buckled up her seatbelt. They were going to her home and announce it to her family.
“Hey, buckle up!”
“It’s just a 30 minutes drive.”
He was driving smoothly through Gilmore Ave. She still feels that she’s floating while he was looking at her. He just can’t stop looking at her face. Then they realize that the car was now filled with an awkward silence. He was the first one to break off by telling a joke.
“Hey! If the Olympians have the quote “No guts, no glory”, and the weightlifters has “No pain, no gain”, how about the security guards?”
“Trying to pull a joke huh? Well. I bet it’s not going to be funny. See? (She frowned) I’m not smiling!”
“Shut up! Do you even know?”
“No. Then what do they say?”
“No I.D., No entry.” (based on dyesebel ^^)
“What the- Ahahah!”
They both laugh so that the awkward silence won’t fill the car again. As he was laughing, they were now on Balete Drive. The rain poured harder, but still he wasn’t able to notice because he kept on laughing. The worse part of that is, he wasn’t able to notice that the Balete Drive was changed into a one way road.
As they were making fun of each other, he’s concentration was not fully on the road. As minutes pass, the road began to be slippery. He was too disturbed to notice that there was a bus approaching towards them, he only knew it when his car slipped and was about to hit the bus. Then everything happened fast. His car hit the bus, then the bus crashed in one of the Balete trees, he’s car titled to the right and hit a delivery truck, the truck driver ran out from his truck as his car continue to drift further away to the street. Before they knew it, they crashed on five vehicles. Nobody died except for one. He died because his head hit his steering wheel. His head was bleeding incessantly. She was safe in her seat, but she was crying as she saw her fiancé was dead. She suddenly remembered that she was just with him in their happiest time of their lives and now that he was actually dead. It was so crucial! She froze there and stayed with her fiancé. She didn’t dare to leave. She didn’t even want to leave him when the police came.
-Flashback Ends- (August 12, 2008 – Tuesday)
She held her hands up to the same level as her chest. She still wears his ring. She still believes that she’s still engaged to him. She kissed the ring as tears flowed in her eyes. She blames herself for not convincing him to buckle up. What if he actually had buckled up? They would probably married and have children now. What if he buckled up? Then she wouldn’t feel alone.
See how can a little thing be a big effect? The most dangerous game is actually playing with safety, and putting your life in the line. Imagine how many regrets can small things bring? How many “what if?” Well, it’s not actually late to avoid it. But it will be late if you actually regret it.
-This is a fictional story made by me. If this story is somewhat similar to any other stories... Again, this is FICTIONAL. All of the events here are just made up by me, and I didn't mean to copy your story.. -
